Abstract

Over time, the traffic harms the structure of pavements due to the flow of automobiles on the road. The most common damage types to the paving are those caused by accumulation of load over time, provoking the fatigue in cemented layers and the shear of granulate layers. In order to assist the analysis of stresses that result in such damage, this research proposes to define guidelines for the confection and calibration of load cells to perform instrumentation of highways. This tool allows know the real state of stresses in the pavement layers, allowing background to define the project’s criteria from field observation Therefore, the calibration of the load cell was carried out statically, situation that is very similar to that used in quasi-static tests (5 km/h) to obtain influence line of deflections on the pavement. On this stage was also observed that the electrical response of the load cell to a confinement situation was the double compared to a situation without confinement.
