Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial susceptibility of Staphylococcus coagulase positive (SCP) isolated from milk of cows with clinical and subclinical mastitis in Sergipe. SCP strains were isolated from milk samples of cows with mastitis, which were submitted to susceptibility testing to antibiotics by the diffusion method with disks. Of the samples collected, 92,7% (102/110) were from animals with subclinical mastitis and 7,3% (8/110) with clinical mastitis. SCP 79 strains were obtained at 24,5% (27/110) of samples. The antimicrobial resistance with the highest tetracycline was observed in 41,7% (33/79) of the isolates, and intermediate resistance in 1,3% (1/79). Intermediate resistance was also observed in ciprofloxacin, 21,5% (17/79) and erythromycin, 70,8% (56/79). It was possible to detect tetracycline resistance among isolates and to correlate it to the abusive and inappropriate use of this antimicrobial by producers in the region.
