Socio-economic profile of the student of licentiate and Technology in distance learning: case study in the face-to-face support pole of the Serra Gaúcha

Abstract

This article is the result of a case study in a Polo to Support Classroom located in the Serra Gaucha. The aim was to analyze the socioeconomic profile of students in the distance education courses in undergraduate and graduate technology according to the criteria used in the Census DL: sex, age and income bracket. The comparison of average age and income was performed by applying a parametric test of hypothesis of difference of means for two independent samples with significance level of 5%. The survey results indicate that in relation to gender, females are predominant: 96% undergraduate and 64% in technology. With regard to mean age, technology students had an average of 29.2 years, which is lower than the average undergraduate students, 32.5 years. For the income range, the results were 7 times the minimum wage for technology courses and 5.7 minimum wages for the bachelor. It was concluded that distance education students are adults, more mature and mostly women already on the job market.
