Abstract

Lock-in amplifiers are very important instruments for the treatment of signals in physics experiments. Theprocessing of signals of low amplitude is particularly needed when we study the electric and magneticproperties of materials. However, the high cost involved in the acquisition of such equipment, appearssometime to be a problem for many applications, in special those related to the teaching of experimentalphysics. A low cost option is to use an audio interface, connected to a microcomputer for simulating itsfunction. Despite the limitations that can arise from this approach, it is very interesting under the didacticaspect, serving in such a way to illustrate the functioning of a lock-in amplifier and providing an optionfor certain classroom experiments.
