First report of indigestion by ingestion mango (Mangifera indica) in cattle

Abstract

It has aimed to report a case of indigestion due to ingestion of mango (Mangifera indica) by dairy cattle, created in the municipality of Itaporanga D'ajuda SE. The animal was in the final stages of pregnancy and went on to present recurrent bloat followed by bilateral nasal discharge. In CGA-Pio X caesarean birth with calf term was performed and rumenotomy where 174 seed mango were removed. The rumen contents found himself acidotic (pH 5.0). The severe systemic involvement was evidenced by the leucocitosis and biochemical (ALT/TGP: 26 UI/L, AST/TGO 460 UI/L, GGT 48 UI/L, BT: 3,91 mg/dl, BD: 0,89 mg/dl e BI: 3,02 mg/dl, urea: 127 g/l, creatinine: 2,7 mg/dl, pt: 5,9 g/dl, alb.: 2 g/dl e gb: 4 g/dl).  Eight hours after the surgical procedure the animal died. At necropsy there was detachment of ruminal mucosa, besides the presence of another seed mango and histologically congestion liver and kidney and rumen with multifocal areas of perivascular neutrophilic inflammatory infiltrate in the mucosa layer.
