Abstract

The following paper aims to divulge the work of a popular poet named John the Baptist Melo and also emphatizar the possibility of his use in the classroom from the referential that establishes relationships between Science, Technology, Society and Art.. Born in Itabaianinha, Sergipe,and resident of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, he is responsible for disseminating the Cordel literature, he's a member of the Brazilian Academy of Cordel. He has several works regarding an environmental theme. One of his Cordels, "The lack of water in the world" was honored by the UN. This asterpiece provides reflections on the environmental issue. Despite this, titles like "The groan of the lagoon" as well as "The pre-salt, the dove and the hawks" and last but not least "The boy who turned into a river" also allows socioscientific discussions in order to valorize the popular culture and the Cordel literature.
